Motor starting - conservation of resources Starting a motor - a matter of the right method!
NEW ZVEI-Brochure about the correct way of Motor starting... Now available in english! Since its invention fare more than a decade ago, the three-phase motor has increasingly established itself as drive unit. Today, it represents the most frequently employed electric drive.
Direct switch-on of electric motors basically bears two disadvantageous effects...

Improvement in efficiency with reduced space requirements and costs Frequency inverters - energy recovery offers additional improvement in efficiency with reduced space requirements and costs
Today, the potentials to increase energy efficiency in the industry and especially in electrical drives technology are well-known to a large circle of users, but there is still a much to be done in practice. According to field surveys about 12 percent of the motor capacity installed in the German industry is operated with energy-saving electronic speed controllers - this with a potential portion of about 50 percent! But even this 12 percent does not tap the available potential fully.

Energy efficiency and cost reduction About the hidden costs of frequency inverters
Frequency inverters are becoming increasingly important in automation engineering. Many automation tasks that were realised in the past with EC and DC motors as well as a wide range of servo motors are being taken over more and more by three-phase standard motors and frequency inverters. This configuration significantly reduces the costs of the drive components in comparison with servo drives. However, the financial gain seems to obscure possible further cost reductions on drives with frequency inverters. Studies by the drive specialist KIMO have shown that in applications with frequent drive switching there is even greater potential for savings, both for the manufacturer of the systems and for the organisation operating the systems. The additional costs for drives with frequency inverters that are not apparent at first glance are described in the following:

Speed control i.e. of fans and blowers Fan drives for buildings and industrial use
Fans and blowers are used for the widest range of applications when moving and blowing air. In addition to pure ventilation, important   applications also include the cooling of equipment and systems and the climate control both of technical or biological systems as well as warehouses, residential and recreational areas. Generally, fans and blowers operate for many hours of a year - even continually. This results in appropriately high operating costs with a relatively low capital investment costs. This means that the ifecycle costs comprise, to a large extent, the energy costs. Further, for most applications, three-phase induction motors are used for these types of drives. The speed of these drives can be adjusted in a highly fficient way - for example by using frequency inverters with the appropriate control characteristics.

Electronic braking State-of-the-art electronic devices for the wear-free braking of three-phase induction motors
Electronic braking devices allow three-phase induction motors to be braked wear-free and offer a rugged alternative to mechanical brakes, especially for high moments of inertia or high switching frequencies. Application examples from the field will describe state-of-the-art technology as well as new developments in this area.

MINT - Promoting Young Talents
Also in 2019 KIMO supports a visit of pupils from the Kaiser-Heinrich-High School in Bamberg to the Hannover International fair. The students will participate in a guided tour through the exhibition, organized by the my-eFuture-initiative, and they will experience hands-on technology. Our special thanks goes to the enablers of the ZVEI and the my-eFuture-initiative!
